Dots & Knots
material: glass (partly sandblasted), fotos, paper, cord
size: 8 x 11 x 5 cm  (one of 6 pieces)
year: 2006

“Dots & Knots” reflects the impressions and experiences gathered during a trip to Canada. The work consists of six pieces, each of which is made from seven panes of glass. Some of these panes are sandblasted, giving the objects a special texture and depth. Carefully selected photographs that capture the diversity of Canada are placed between the six-millimeter-thick panes. The paper-framed images are held together by red string that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also symbolizes the connections that exist between the different elements of the work. A central feature of “Dots & Knots” is the use of a traditional knotting technique practiced by indigenous Canadians. This technique gives the installation stability and cultural depth, reflecting an appreciation and respect for indigenous traditions.
